The Epitome of Summer

It’s raining. It’s grey. It’s January. And I am sitting here with a summery song stuck in my head. Dreaming of the sunshine. It reminded me that I never did post the summer photos from the cabin at Mabel Lake.

Friends and neighbors, warm sand and white wakes. Ice cream cones, getting just hot enough that you HAVE TO jump in. The smell of boat fuel, fishing gear and sunscreen. Lying on the warm dock in a summery, watery, sun warmed stupor and feeling the speedboat induced waves lull you to sleep, the motion lingering in your body hours after leaving the beach. There is nothing like taking the pontoon out to the middle of the lake, turning off the engine, turning on the music and stopping. Then mustering up the energy to dive in, have a water fight, a swimming race and a splashing contest…climb back on the boat, and repeat in 30 minutes.

I cannot wait for summer…

Are you trying to mess with my head….posting these in the middle of January? Most unkind, Ms. Wellman. Your mom is so gorgeous….I see where you get it from. Except I am mad at you for posting these luscious shots on this blah day so you aren’t really deserving of compliments.

Summer is so far away that I can’t think of any comfort other than that of warm slippers and a big dinner. But your photos bring it back…

Sweet! I can feel it…that’s why we grind through the January blues…because summer at Mabel awaits! See you in August! FA!

  • Todd - February 6, 2011 - 11:43 pm

PS…the sweet child in the polka dot hat is mine! Well…she belongs to the universe, but I helped make her. :)
