Such a sweet group of artists! Thanks, Rebecca, for capturing the essence of the event and sharing it with us.
Lots of cuties in that group! And all so photogenic…
Because it was Nelson’s birthday, and because I cannot seem to put my camera down this weekend, and because it’s been too long since I’ve blogged a dinner party, I bring you this. It’s these evenings. With my camera. Holding memories. It’s these times. It’s these I love.
your love of food, good friends & all things photographic shine through in these. Beautiful captures of what looked like a fabulous gathering. Thanks for sharing.
So beautiful….what a talent you are.
AMAZING! As always – stunning.
Where did you find so many photogenic people (and food) under one roof?!!
And they were REALLY having a good time (not just mugging for the camera)…
Thanks!
Great, as usual, Rebecca…everything, and everyone, looked so good!
Lovely photos, Rebecca.
It is a sad state of affairs when I find myself racking my brain to remember the last time I was on Quadra Island. A sure sign of it being far too long. I look back on my last QI post and find that it was 2 years ago. Where does it go? I am at a loss.
On a somewhat thought out but spontaneous trip, I joined my brother et al for New Year’s Eve. To leave the civility of gowns and glitter behind in favour of cold fingers and campfires is OK with me. Preferred really. Replacing sparkles and champagne with gumboots and plaid just works. Well, there was champagne actually. But our glasses didn’t match. Truly barbaric.
And while the thought of the possibility of running into Mother Mother in their homeland was on my mind, it wasn’t the main reason for going. I swear. So, I hit the road and looked forward to time with family, fresh air and serious R&R.
It’s always a challenge to decide which image to start with, but I will settle on this one, because they’re so darn cute.
Warning: Do not try this at home. It turns out that balancing on a shaky log, while looking straight down through a lens at moving water and trying to focus does not lend itself to the guaranteed protection of expensive camera equipment.
For some reason, I’m really loving jumping shots right now. To make someone look as though they’re floating like a rogue balloon, a flyaway umbrella, a kite. I’m into it.
Here’s another one in case you didn’t believe me.
So, this really happened. When I posted the left image on Instagram, I had people asking if it was for real. Yes. It was for real. With real hot water, real heavenly steam, real glass of wine. ‘Twas divine. (Taking your camera into the bathtub. Also not recommended).
And then the eve of the New Year was upon us. Cool darkness fell, warm lights rose. We gathered, opened champagne. Steamy breath, twinkly eyes. Kids full of beans. It was exactly what we needed. No dropping balls, no confetti. Just a smooth transition into a brand new year.
The next day, in full gulf island regalia (colorful layers of wooly fabrics, striped socks, gumboots, toques), we traipsed over to the neighbor’s to see something cool.
They took these (the band).

Made it into this:
And did this:
I love that! The beautiful simplicity of it. The warmth. The full resourcefulness. Love. Also. Look at this face. You just want to kiss it! You know you do.
I LOVE these photos! So cute! I love the one with all the kids sitting in a row. Everyone looks so happy in it :)
