Every year, my 11 year old nephew grows his hair out. Just like any other boy these days, really.
But it’s for a purpose.
Each September, for the past 5 years, he has shaved his head for cancer. In support of all those kids who lose their hair when they have no other choice, he stands in brotherly solidarity, and raises money in Victoria to help find the cure. He has been passionate about this cause since he was six. He does this in conjunction with the return of the Tour de Rock that rides each year up and down Vancouver Island.
I can’t tell you how proud I am of this boy and what a wonderful person he is growing up to be. And one day, as I have told him since he was a little one, he will tower above me and look down on me in all his tallness and bigness. And I get to know everything that he will accomplish and all that he will be. (Don’t get there too fast, OK, buddy?)
Love you forever, Ry. xoxo
